Micron has announced the M500IT SSD, expanding on its automotive storage solutions portfolio with capacities ranging from 60GB to 240GB as well as embedded multimedia card (eMMC) 5.0 memory. Both solutions are specifically designed to enhance automotive applications.

Micron’s M500IT SSD is the industry’s first automotive-grade SSD that is built with AEC-Q100-compliant NAND flash memory components and system-level qualification in select automotive applications and conditions. In addition, the M500IT SSD features hardware-based encryption, data-at-rest protection against unexpected power loss, and an adaptive thermal monitoring system to secure user data at extended temperatures. With AEC-Q100-compliant NAND flash memory technology and customized firmware, the M500IT ideal for demanding automotive applications due to its focus on high quality and high performance.

Micron’s eMMC 5.0 is specifically architected to provide the level of quality, innovation, and service that is required by automotive application designers. All of Micron’s eMMC products are fully managed NAND solutions with built-in controllers and industry-standard interfaces, which results in a simpler hardware and software integration as well as the streamlining of the development and qualification process for designers. Micron’s automotive eMMC also features a full range of JEDEC-compliant packages in densities ranging from 4GB to 128GB.

Availability

The M500IT SSD is currently in the qualification stage at focused automotive platform suppliers. Broader availability is slated for a mid-2015 release.

Micron’s eMMC 4.51 product family is in volume production with automotive OEMs. In addition, the 5.0 solution is currently sampling with mass production targeted a for late 2015 release.
