WiFi 6 has not yet become an official IEEE specification (though it is slated to be later this year). However, WiFi 6 products have been rolling out for the last 2+ years, including common phones that are probably in one’s pocket as they read this. The new WiFi brings faster speed and speed per device which is always nice. It should also improve range. The big advantage though is the fact that more devices can be connected now. Looking around the office it is easy to see more and more connected devices coming online and being leveraged to make business a bit more efficient.

The NETGEAR WAX610 supports WiFi 6 smart phones (iPhone 11, Samsung Galaxy S10, LG V60, ThinQ, Motorola Edge Plus, and more). The AP will also support the ever-expanding world of IoT devices, as well as notebooks. The company claims up to 40% more throughput to each individual device in the 5GHz band and 70% more throughput in the 2.4GHz band, compared to the previous generation. The WAX610 will support four times the number of devices giving SMBs more users with better speeds and less congestion. While the new AP can be used in several environments, NETGEAR points out that it is ideal for schools, hotels, restaurants and conference centers.

The new NETGEAR WAX610 works with existing NETGEAR Insight managed switches, WiFi access points and network storage so no need to upgrade everything at once. The company wants to point out that the new AP doesn’t just bring WiFi 6, but NEATGEAR WiFi 6. What they mean by that is that it brings the above benefits (including 2.5GbE connectivity) as well as an ease of setup and management, high levels of security, cloud and local management, as well as being budget friendly for SMBs. The WAX610(Y) is PoE compatible and works with any PoE switch.
