Cisco Completes Its Acquisition Of Springpath

Cisco announce that it has completed its acquisition of hyperconvergence software company, Springpath. The two companies had worked together in the past to deliver things such as Hyperflex. Cisco acquired Springpath for $320 million in cash and assumed equity awards, plus additional retention-based incentives.

Rubrik Releases Alta 4.1

Rubrik announced the 4.1 release of its cloud data management platform, Alta. The latest version of Alta now supports all the major cloud vendors including Google Cloud Platform integration and it has broaden its support for AWS and Microsoft Azure (including the first data management vendor to support Azure Stack). NVIDIA Integrated GPU Insights Into vROPs

NVIDIA announced that it integrated its Virtual GPU Management Pack into the new VMware vRealize Operations for Horizon and vRealize Operations for Published Apps. Benefits include:

  • GPU, encode, decode and memory utilization at the host or guest level, with application-level monitoring capabilities — allowing IT to intelligently design, manage and support their end users’ experience.
  • Real-time and historical data for proactive management of their environments, with analytics to optimize user experience.
  • Insights valuable across all of IT — from supporting infrastructure admins for setting up and managing their environments, to IT helpdesk for accelerating the remediation of tickets.

Rozo Systems Announces RozoFS 3

Rozo Systems announced their latest software release with RozoFS 3. According to the company, RozoFS 3 can improve data center storage performance for its customers by as much as 60%, offering the performance of flash at the price of disk. RozoFS 3 works by leveraging RDMA over Converged Ethernet, eliminating data buffer copies by transferring data directly between the RozoFS memory and network adapters on both the RozoFS storage servers and clients.

Maxta Introduces VMware vSphere Escape Pod

Maxta Inc. introduced what it is calling a VMware vSphere Escape Pod. This new solutions allows users to migrate virtual machines from VMware ESXi to Red Hat Virtualization and to run both hypervisors on Maxta hyperconvergence software. The idea behind the solution is to allow customers to avoid the “VMware tax” and choose the hypervisor best suited to their needs.

Trilio Announces GA Of TrilioVault 2.5

Trilio Data announced the release of its native recovery, data protection & backup solution for OpenStack clouds, TrilioVault 2.5. Key features include:

  • Seamless integration with SUSE Openstack Cloud 7
  • Application aware backup for Microsoft MSSQL and Sharepoint, Oracle,  and MariaDB
  • OpenStack configuration backup.

Seagate Participates In The Consortium Acquiring Toshiba Memory Corporation

Toshiba has been looking for someone to buy its memory business for a bit now. Not finding one buyer, it found a consortium led by Bain Capital Private Equity. Seagate has now joined the consortium throwing $1.25 billion into the ring. This should give Seagate a steady supply of NAND as it begins to expand its flash memory.

G2M Predicts NVMe will be a $60 Billion Market By 2021

G2M Research released its 2017 NVMe Market sizing report which looks from now until 2021. Key findings include:

  • NVMe Servers: More than 50% of enterprise servers will have U.2 NVMe bays by 2019.
  • NVMe Solid-state Drives (SSDs): The market for NVMe SSDs (U.2, M.2, and PCI AOCs) will reach $9B by 2021.
  • NVMe-based All-flash Arrays (AFAs): More than 70% of AFAs will be NVMe-based by 2020.
  • NVMe Storage Appliances: Over 70% of storage appliances will be NVMe-based by 2021.
  • NVMe over Fabric (NVMe-oF) Adapters: The market for NVMe-oF adapters will exceed 1.5 million units by 2021.
