Cohesity And AWS To Deliver DMaaS

Cohesity and AWS are collaborating to deliver a Data Management as a Server (DMaaS) offering that provides a simple way to back up, secure, govern, and analyze data. The new DMaaS is built off of Cohesity Helios and offers the following benefits:

  • A unique, comprehensive set of data management services: Within the DMaaS solution, customers will be able to subscribe to discrete data management offerings addressing a wide-range of use cases — all from one provider. Accessing each of these capabilities through Cohesity — versus selecting one provider for backup, another for disaster recovery, and yet others for file and object services, copy data management, data security and governance — reduces infrastructure silos and addresses mass data fragmentation.
  • Advanced security and ransomware detection: Helios currently analyzes over 400,000 events daily and uses machine learning (ML) to detect anomalies that could signal a ransomware attack in progress. DMaaS customers can use these capabilities to detect, respond, and rapidly recover from such an attack.
  • Data management made simple: Customers will have the ability to easily and seamlessly manage their existing on-premises and cloud environments, as well as the policies for their data in the new Cohesity-managed environment all through Cohesity Helios.
  • A shift to predictability and simplicity: Consumption-based pricing provides cost predictability and eliminates over-provisioning. The DMaaS solution also removes equipment procurement headaches and reduces operating expenses and administrative overhead.
  • Sophisticated cloud-based services that derive additional value from data: Once on AWS, customers can also easily take advantage of cloud-based services provided by AWS. Customers can use these services to help ensure compliance, enhance security, and extract additional insights and business intelligence through ML and analytics.

Privacera Releases Platform 4.0

Privacera announced the general availability of their Privacera Platform version 4.0. Highlights include:

  • New Access Workflows – provide seamless, consistent access controls across all members of organizations and enable flexible customization of user access to support project- or time-based access. Backed by Flowable, a leading open source business process management (BPM) engine, this new functionality allows users to request data access for specific projects or assignments based on roles, resources, or applicable tags and/or request access to all applicable data they need with a single request.
  • Additionally, access workflows alleviate manual access management processes for administrators and improve visibility of access requests by providing:
    • Single-click access request approval
    • Automatic entitlement policy creation for all new data requests
    • Seamless updating of existing entitlement policies
    • A full audit trail on all access requests and entitlement creations
    • Plug and play capabilities with workflow solutions like ServiceNow or Zendesk
  • Enhanced Discovery Rule Engine – provides multi-layer tagging capabilities, enabling customers to build more sophisticated access control policies to significantly improve governance and compliance and streamline data tagging to find sensitive data faster and easier. Users can apply tags at multiple levels of data (e.g., columns and tables), create parent tags to restrict analyses of entire tables, and generate additional tags based on initial classification. Additionally, users can also create parent-child access policies based on multiple tags.
  • New Encryption Gateway – Privacera Encryption Gateway (PEG) leverages Apache Ranger’s encryption and decryption schemes and automatically encrypts customers’ sensitive data and personally identifiable information, without any manual processes required. PEG provides: seamless access via the Privacera Portal, alleviating manual installation; complete management and maintenance, alleviating any manual software updates; and support for data at rest or in motion, ensuring customers are protected across their on-premise and cloud infrastructures.
