Nimbus Data has earned the first Citrix Ready certification for multiprotocol high-availability flash memory systems. This certification will be essential for Nimbus’ continued growth in the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) market, including XenDesktop and XenServer solutions. The Citrix Ready program identifies trusted third-party products for virtualization, networking and cloud computing solutions.
Nimbus points to research by IDC which projects over 45 million VDI desktops will be deployed by 2014. To date, VDI adoption has been hampered by storage performance and cost challenges. According to The Evaluator Group, one of the leading research firms covering desktop virtualization, nearly 50% of organizations deploying VDI face storage cost and performance challenges.
Nimbus flash memory systems provide up to 50x greater IO performance than 15K RPM disk arrays. High storage performance enables greater VM density and cuts power, cooling, and rack space costs, reducing storage costs per VDI instance. Users see these performance benefits firsthand as reduced boot and application load times. In turn, a more responsive user experience increases VDI acceptance.
Nimbus’ flash systems scale to 500 TB, providing storage capacity for the large VDI deployments. Support for Fibre Channel, NFS, and iSCSI gives users the flexibility to select the storage protocol and networking technology for their existing infrastructure and staff with no license fees and a low acquisition cost.
All Nimbus flash memory systems, including the performance S-Class and the scalable E-Class, are now included in the Citrix Ready certification. Nimbus joins other distinguished Citrix Ready partners that include XenApp, NetScaler, and GoToMeeting.
