Nutanix has added new features and capabilities to its Nutanix Cloud Platform, integrating data management for containerized and virtualized applications across hybrid multicloud environments. Extensive data services for Kubernetes applications and cross-cloud data mobility is included. Also announced, Nutanix Central, a cloud-to-edge unified management solution.

According to a 2021 IDC report, they estimate 750 million new logical applications by 2025, exceeding the number from the past 40 years of computing. IDC expects large amounts of that data to get stored in the cloud. Organizations will look for ways to integrate data management for containerized and virtualized applications across multiple environments.

Nutanix Data Services for Kubernetes (NDK)

Nutanix Data Services for Kubernetes (NDK), initially delivered as part of Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI), brings its enterprise-class storage, snapshots, and disaster recovery to Kubernetes. NDK is expected to accelerate containerized application development for stateful workloads by introducing storage provisioning, snapshots, and disaster recovery operations to Kubernetes pods and application namespaces.

Kubernetes developers can benefit from self-service capabilities to manage storage and data services and provide IT with visibility and governance over consumption. NDK also represents the latest proof point of integration between Red Hat OpenShift and Nutanix Cloud Platform.

Multicloud Snapshot Technology (MST)

In addition to NDK, Nutanix introduced Multicloud Snapshot Technology (MST) capability for cross-cloud data mobility. MST extends Nutanix hybrid multicloud data services by enabling snapshots directly to cloud-native object stores, with AWS S3 object storage service for the initial offering.

MST unlocks hybrid multicloud data protection, recovery, and mobility use cases, including:

  • Ability to protect and migrate stateful Kubernetes applications and data across cloud infrastructures with NDK
  • Disaster recovery and backup for containerized virtualized applications
  • Ability to create a snapshot with instant recovery anywhere
  • Cross-cloud migration
  • Ability to share data for workflows like test/dev, long-term retention for compliance, etc.

Integration with Snowflake

Nutanix Objects Storage solution is now integrated with Snowflake allowing organizations to use Snowflake Data Cloud to analyze data directly on Nutanix Objects Storage, keeping data local, accelerating time to value, and delivering faster insights. The single namespace simplifies access to globally distributed data.

NDK and MST are under development. The Nutanix Objects Storage and Snowflake integration are available today.

Nutanix Central

Nutanix announced Nutanix Central, a cloud-delivered solution providing a single console for visibility, monitoring, and management across public cloud, on-premises, hosted, or edge infrastructure. The new solution extends the universal cloud operating model of the Nutanix Cloud Platform, breaking down silos and simplifying managing apps and data anywhere.

Managing data across various environments can be challenging for organizations. Nutanix Central simplifies this task by providing a user-friendly management toolset that can handle large-scale data management across endpoints, from on-premises to public cloud and edge environments.

Cloud-Delivered, Unified Management

Nutanix Central provides cloud-delivered, unified management, and reporting of the Nutanix environment, distributed across private, public, and edge clouds. It also supports federated identity and access management (IAM), global projects and categories, and global fleet management, enabling IT to deliver a self-service infrastructure at scale while remaining in control of governance and security.

The Nutanix Central dashboard provides customers a quick overview of the state of each domain with access to domain and cluster-level metrics, which includes capacity utilization and alert summary statistics. This functionality will also enable seamless navigation to individual domains, based on individual user role-based access control (RBAC), across all registered domains.

Nutanix Central will be available to customers as part of their Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI) license.
