Today at the GTC 2020 show, NVIDIA announced a new platform to be available on Amazon EC2 P3 and G4 instances (that which support NVIDIA V100 and T4 GPUs), the NVIDIA CloudXR. This platform will enable users to stream high-quality immersive experiences to remote VR and AR devices. NVIDIA goes so far as to state that CloudXR can turn any showroom or retail venue into an XR virtual experience showcase.

Immersive experiences are interesting at the moment but probably will take more of a center stage moving forward. At the moment, one can’t just be spun up and displayed without something like an expensive workstation nearby or external VR tracking systems. NVIDIA is looking to give users the ability to stream from the cloud and make the entire process easier and more accessible. The CloudXR platform includes the NVIDIA CloudXR software development kit, NVIDIA Quadro Virtual Workstation (QvWS) software and NVIDIA AI SDKs. NVIDIA states the platform can deliver photorealistic graphics, with the mobile convenience of all-in-one XR headsets. XR is a collective term for VR, AR and mixed reality.

Availability

NVIDIA CloudXR on AWS will be generally available early next year, with a private beta available in the coming months.
