The new Icy Dock MB991IK-B is a 2.5" SATA/SAS mobile rack for use in 3.5" drive bays. The design supports 2.5" drives up to 15mm in height and offers plenty of ventilation for high performance drives. 

At a promotional event in New York this week, Samsung has launched their latest desktop hard drive, the Spinpoint F4. The F4 features a single 320GB platter and thanks to the elimination of halogen compound and brominated flame retardant from the PCBA, the Spinpoint F4 meets all the environmental regulations including RoHS.

Super Talent has released the TeraDrive CT SSD which uses the SandForce SF-1200 processor to deliver read and write speeds up to 285 and 275 MB/sec respectively. Super Talent joins a lengthening list of SSD providers leveraging the speedy SF-1200 processor. 

OCZ has launched the Deneva Series SSDs for the enterprise, leveraging the SandForce SF-1500 processor and SLC, MLC and eMLC NAND options. The drives feature speeds of up to 285MB/s read and 275MB/s write; and 4KB random writes up to 50,000 IOPS.

OCZ has unveiled its Vertex 2 Pro and Vertex 2 EX Solid State Drives (SSDs) for enterprise use. The 2.5-inch drives use SandForce SF-1500 SSD processors and have MLC or SLC memory.

The hard drive industry is currently transitioning from a traditional 512-byte sector to a new Advanced Format with a 4kb sector. Seagate Technology will be introducing its SmartAlign technology to its new Advanced Format hard drives to help customers with the transition.

Lite-On has released the iHBS112 Blu-ray drive which features 12X write speeds, the fastest currently available. Other highlights include 3D playback and 2D to simulated 3D playback

NewerTech has launched the MAXPower eSATA 6G PCIe 2.0 RAID Controller Card, which adds two SATA 6Gb/s ports along with port multiplier to allow up to ten drives (20TB) with RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and JBOD support. The card works with both PCs and Mac Pros.

Iomega has announced a series of desktop and portable external hard drives. The newly-announced models feature USB 3.0 connections and Mac Editions with dual FireWire 800 ports.
