Pure Storage and Nutanix Partner to Power VMware Migrations

by Harold Fritts

Pure Storage and Nutanix partner to deliver a scalable, resilient virtualization platform for modern workloads and VMware migration paths.

Nutanix and Pure Storage have announced a strategic partnership to deliver an integrated solution for organizations seeking to deploy and manage virtual workloads on a scalable, modern infrastructure. This collaboration is in response to ongoing shifts in the virtualization market, where enterprises seek alternatives that offer operational efficiency and future flexibility.

Industry analysts are forecasting significant changes in the virtualization landscape. According to Gartner, by 2028, cost concerns will drive 70% of enterprise-scale VMware customers to migrate 50% of their virtual workloads. This trend highlights the need for solutions that can adapt to evolving requirements while maintaining high performance and reliability.

The new solution combines Nutanix Cloud Platform and Pure Storage FlashArray, utilizing NVMe/TCP connectivity to provide a robust experience for high-demand data workloads, including AI-driven ones. The platform is powered by the Nutanix AHV hypervisor and Nutanix Flow, which offers advanced virtual networking and security capabilities. This integration is designed to simplify deployment and management, enabling organizations to focus on their core business objectives rather than infrastructure complexity.

Flexible, High-Performance, Simple

At the core of this partnership is the delivery of a high-performance and flexible full-stack infrastructure. Customers benefit from the agility and simplicity of the Nutanix Cloud Platform for virtual compute, combined with the consistency, scalability, and performance density of Pure Storage’s all-flash systems. This approach supports business-critical workloads and provides a foundation for organizations to scale as their needs evolve.

Built-In Cyber Resilience

Security and resilience are integral to the solution. Organizations can leverage Nutanix’s native capabilities, such as Flow microsegmentation and disaster recovery orchestration, to enhance their cyber resilience posture. These features complement Pure Storage FlashArray’s data-at-rest encryption and SafeMode, providing additional layers of protection against data loss and cyber threats. The result is an end-to-end solution that addresses both operational and security requirements.

Freedom of Choice and Operational Agility

A key driver for many organizations is the need for agility and control over mission-critical environments. The combined offering from Nutanix and Pure Storage provides a resilient, user-friendly alternative to existing market options. Customers can modernize their infrastructure without being locked into a single vendor or technology stack.

Nutanix’s Chief Commercial Officer, Tarkan Maner, emphasized that the integrated solution will enable companies to reach a broader customer base and help organizations modernize mission-critical applications. He noted that the solution is well-suited for storage-rich environments where customers seek modernization options.

From Pure Storage, Maciej Kranz, General Manager, Enterprise, highlighted the growing demand for efficient, flexible, high-performance solutions that can scale to support data-intensive applications. He pointed out that both Nutanix and Pure Storage have a track record of driving innovation and enabling agility, and that this new solution will provide customers with a virtual infrastructure designed for change.

Ecosystem and Hardware Support

The integrated solution will be available on major server hardware platforms supporting Pure Storage FlashArray, including Cisco, Dell, HPE, Lenovo, and Supermicro. The compatibility ensures that organizations can deploy the solution on existing and new hardware, protecting investments and simplifying adoption.

Cisco and Pure Storage are expanding their longstanding partnership to include Nutanix in the FlashStack portfolio. This move will streamline full-stack delivery, with more than 60 validated designs incorporating Nutanix. Cisco’s SVP and General Manager of Compute, Jeremy Foster, noted that the future of infrastructure is defined by flexibility. He highlighted that the next evolution of FlashStack, with Nutanix integration, will offer a proven platform backed by Cisco-validated designs, unified support, and deep integration with Cisco Intersight for comprehensive visibility across both Pure Storage and Nutanix clusters.

Market Availability

The Nutanix and Pure Storage integrated solution is currently being developed. Early access is expected by summer 2025, and general availability is anticipated by the end of the year. The solution will be offered through Nutanix and Pure Storage channel partners.

The partnership between Nutanix and Pure Storage represents a significant advancement for organizations seeking a modern, scalable, and resilient virtual infrastructure. By combining the strengths of both platforms, the solution addresses the evolving needs of enterprises as they navigate a rapidly changing virtualization market.
