Samsung has announced three new lines of slim and design-centric Flash Drives, the Bar, FIT and DUO. Each form factors are equipped with Samsung’s NAND flash technology and are compatible with both USB 3.0 and 2.0 connections. The new slick looking drives are comprised of a metal-based design with Samsung’s 5-proof technologies as well as a 5 year warranty program that starts on the date of purchase.

Available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities, the Bar type offers a more modern look with what Samsung calls a light champagne colored, high-quality metal enclosure for a more durable build. It also has streamlined spherical end for a more seamless experience, as it allows users to easily insert and extract the drive. It measures 40mm long and weighs in at just under 9 grams and is meant for PC devices and is available in three capacities. The drive is quoted to offer sequential read speeds up to 130MB/s.

The Samsung USB 3.0 flash drive FIT is the company’s most compact of the new flash drives as it is designed for ultra-slim notebooks and vehicles that are equipped with media USB ports. The drive is meant for ultimate portability with streamlined edges and an easy grip for removal. The FIT drive measures under 20mm long and weighs roughly 2.0 grams. Performance-wise, Samsung quotes sequential read speed of up to 130MB/s in both of its 32GB and 64GB capacities.

The Samsung DUO is designed for smartphone, tablet, and PC users as an all-in-one solution for standard and micro USB ports. Equipped with an attached cap to protect the exposed connectors, the drive is quoted to deliver sequential read speed upwards of 130MB/s and is compatible with Android devices that support a micro USB 2.0 interface. The DUO drive is available in 32GB and 64GB capacities and measures less than 37mm long while weighing less than 6 grams.

All drives feature Samsung’s 5-Proof technology, which guarantees protection up to 72 hours in seawater and the ability survive operating temperatures from 32°F to 140°F. Additionally, data stored on the drives will not be affected by airport X-ray machines or extreme levels of shock up to 1,500g (gravitational force). Lastly, the technology allows the drives to resist up to 15,000 gauss magnetic force, –the equivalent of a high-field MRI scanner.

Availability

Samsung indicates that all drives will be available globally with a 128GB capacity in each form factor to be released later this year.
