Samsung has announced that it has begun mass producing the SM1623, a new high-performance SAS SSD using 10-nanometer class MLC NAND flash. The new Samsung SAS SSD is designed to meet the needs of many global customers for cost-effective, high-capacity SSDs and is targeted at enterprise customers.

The SM1623 is the successor to the SM1625 SAS SSD, which was released in 2012 and based on 20nm-class NAND flash. The new 10nm-class SAS SSD delivers the same level of performance all the while quoting an improvement in productivity by more than 30 percent. It also supports more than a drive write per day (DWPD) of endurance, making it ideal for enterprise storage customers.

The SM1623 has an 800GB top capacity and delivers random read and write speeds of up to 120,000 and 26,000 IOPS respectively. Its sequential read and write speeds are up to 950 and 520MB/s. The drives are shipping now.
