Thin is in, at least in personal computing. Users have been adopting mobile methods of computer use and these laptops and tablets are getting thinner with each new generation. As customers demand thinner devices OEMs need to find new technology to meet the demand. SanDisk’s new X400 has been created to address these concerns in a variety of capacities: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB.

While thin is definitely desirable it is not the only appealing option of the X400. The X400 has both increased reliability and endurance making it ideal for situations where heavy use is expected. SanDisk states that it has tested the 256GB X400 and found that it was able to operate for the equivalent of more than 5 years with a workload of approximately 40GB/day. This reliability is achieved by implementing SanDisk’s own nCache 2.0 technology and DataGuard technology as well as additional error correction mechanisms.

Other features of the X400 include the ability to use less than 90% of the energy of a typical HDD. From the data protection standpoint the X400 can protect data through AES 256-bit compliant encryption and TCG Opal 2.0 compatibility. The latter is aimed directly at healthcare, financial services, and education sectors.

Availability

The SanDisk X400 SSD is available today in both 2.5” and M.2 form factor.
