Seagate Announces Industry-First 2TB Enterprise M.2 NVMe SSD

by Adam Armstrong

Today Seagate Technology announces that it was continuing to expand its Nytro line, now by adding the industry’s first 2TB M.2 NVMe SSD. The 2TB version of Seagate’s Nytro XM1440 M.2 is the highest capacity M.2 SSD currently on the market and is ideal for demanding enterprise applications that require fast data access, capacity and processing.

Data, and therefore storage, is ever expanding. Data centers need effective, high density means to store and manage this data. The 2TB Nytro XM1440 M.2 is a very compact form factor and has twice the density of other NVMe M.2 devices. The drive has been optimized for read-intensive and mixed workloads, making it ideal for cloud and enterprise data center environments (environments where speed and processing power are as important as a small footprint is). Seagate states that the new drive can meet the needs of demanding enterprise applications including online transaction processing (OLTP), high-performance computing (HPC), and big data analytics.

The 2TB Nytro XM1440 M.2 only uses 7 watts of power when active and has performance up to 30,000 IOPS per watt, in other worlds the XM1440 M.2 can deliver high levels of performance in a small power envelope. On top of performance the new drive comes with a barrage of data protection including low-density parity-check error correction, RAISE technology (similar to RAID), and a power loss data protection circuit.
