Seagate Technology has thrown its hat into the ring of cloud data protection with the release of a portfolio of new solutions that are part of its Hybrid Cloud Data Protection. This new portfolio includes Seagate Backup and Recovery Software, Seagate Cloud Backup and Recovery Services, Seagate Backup and Recovery Private Cloud, and Seagate Data Management Services. Seagate’s new Hybrid Cloud Data Protection portfolio is aimed at all customers from small businesses to large enterprises enabling them to manage explosive data growth and increasingly complex security needs in an easy and cost-effective manner.

Seagate is known primarily as a hard drive manufacturer. While they do make hard drives from small portable drives for consumers all the way up to large capacity enterprise drives for datacenters, they are also branching out into other areas. They just announced integration and partnership with IBM and HP on the high-performance computing front. And now they are offering a set of solutions for data protection in hybrid clouds.

Data continues to grow and applications such as Big Data, the Internet of Things, and ongoing transition to software-as-a-service are fueling that growth. Customers are looking for new ways to backup their data and the cloud is becoming an ever increasingly attractive option. Seagate’s new Backup and Recovery solutions deploy rapidly, shorten backup times, come with a streamlined management, and, according to Seagate, “restore data instantaneously.” Seagate’s Backup and Recovery Software and Cloud Backup and Recovery Services have a performance improvement up to 400% in the speed of backup, restore and replication than the previous Seagate EVault offering. Now organizations of all sizes are able to protect large and growing datasets within their standard backup window without impacting their production environments. The software can handle up to 6TB of compressed data per hour (read speeds) on a single module for a real-world mix of jobs.

Seagate Data Management Services can help customers improve their TCO by analyzing data usage. There is no manual intervention and Data Management Services will advise which tier the data analyzed should be stored on, improving cost effectiveness. This will help customers to meet compliance requirements, policy enforcement, and data governance.

Seagate Backup and Recovery Private Cloud provides Managed Service Providers with the ideal scale out infrastructure. The Backup and Recovery Private Cloud supports multi-tenancy and delivers speed, virtually unlimited scale, and high availability. The Seagate Backup and Recovery Private Cloud gives the capacity they need and can grow to PB scale, scaling up to 1PB in two racks of tier-1 storage and 2PB in one rack of tier-2 storage.

Availability

Seagate’s Hybrid Cloud Data Protection portfolio is expected to be available at the end of August this year.
