Today SonicWall announced several new products and services aimed at accelerating speed thresholds for its Automated Real-Time Breach Detection and Prevention Platform across wired, wireless and mobile networks. These new products and solutions include a new SonicOS (6.5) with over 50 new features, a new NSA 2650 firewall, new SonicWave 802.11ac Wave 2 wireless access points, a new SonicWall Cloud Analytics application, and a new Secure Mobile Access OS version 12.1.
Today SonicWall announced several new products and services aimed at accelerating speed thresholds for its Automated Real-Time Breach Detection and Prevention Platform across wired, wireless and mobile networks. These new products and solutions include a new SonicOS (6.5) with over 50 new features, a new NSA 2650 firewall, new SonicWave 802.11ac Wave 2 wireless access points, a new SonicWall Cloud Analytics application, and a new Secure Mobile Access OS version 12.1.
As stated, SonicWall has added over 50 new features to the latest version of its operating system, SonicOS 6.5. The 6.5 release is customer-driven, the largest in SonicWall’s history. SonicOS features a new, intuitive interface while still offering advanced networking and connectivity capabilities to optimize system availability. The OS comes with improved threat API capabilities that help customers build automated security platforms that can leverage third-party threat intelligence feeds. Version 6.5 also takes a swing at mobile security with a suite of wireless features.
When one thinks of SonicWall, the first thing that typically comes to mind is firewalls. Along with a new OS, SonicWall is also unveiling the new SonicWall Network Security Appliance (NSA) 2650 firewall. This firewall promises to deliver automated, real-time breach detection and prevention, as well as TLS/SSL decryption and inspection, over multi-gigabit wired and Wave 2 wireless networks. The 2650 supports both multi-engine sandboxing via the Capture Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) service and full deep packet inspection of TLS/SSL-encrypted traffic for 2.5G wired and 802.11ac Wave 2 wireless networks, the first branch and campus firewall to do so. The 2650 comes with eight 2.5G Ethernet interfaces and 20 total ports allowing it to match network throughput between multi-gigabit wired and 802.11ac Wave 2 wireless networks. SonicWall states that, compared to its previous generation, the NSA 2650 supports twice the number of DPI connections and offers 12,000 DPI SSL connections, an increase of 12X.
As a compliment to the new firewall, SonicWall is also announcing the new SonicWave series of access points. These access points meet the 802.11ac Wave 2 wireless standard and feature 4×4 MU-MIMO technology for best-in-class Wi-Fi performance, range and reliability.
While there is much buzz about Big Data and the insights that can be gained through analytics, much of the same can be said for networking. Noting this, SonicWall released its SonicWall Cloud Analytics, a cloud application that leverages a powerful intelligence-driven engine and is delivered as a service to customers and partners. Aside from insights, the new application can also provide real-time visibility and alerting for network traffic, user behavior and device activity from a centralized dashboard. According to the company, SonicWall Cloud Analytics provides extensive drill-down investigative and forensic capabilities for deep security data analysis, including traffic, applications, threats, and user behavior and activities.
While all of the above works well for securing networks within organizations, most workers take their work with them on their mobile devices. Whether they are working from home or traveling for work, users need to be able to access files while staying secure. In order to secure remote users, SonicWall announced SonicWall Secure Mobile Access (SMA) 12.1. The latest version of SMA provides secure, policy-enforced access to email, file servers and corporate applications using federated SSO to both cloud and on-premise resources from authorized devices. The new version can also now scan all file uploads with the SonicWall Capture ATP service, a cloud-based, multi-engine sandbox designed to discover and stop unknown, zero-day attacks, such as ransomware.
Availability
SonicOS 6.5, NSA 2650 firewall, and the SonicWave series of wireless access points are available now. SMA 12.1 and Cloud Analytics are expected to be available in the fourth quarter in North America and Europe.
