Spectra Logic and Globus Announce Partnership to Offer Cost-Effective Tiered Storage

Enterprise

Spectra Logic and Globus have announced a new partnership at Supercomputing 2015 in Austin, Texas. The new collaboration will combine Spectra Logic’s BlackPearl hybrid storage ecosystem and the Globus research data management service to create a joint, cost-effective solution designed to provide Globus users with a turnkey private storage cloud that leverages a familiar web interface across online, nearline and offline storage systems.

This new joint-ventured solution is delivered using a recently released BlackPearl client for Globus Connect Server, which allows virtually any storage system to be accessed through the Globus service. The updated BlackPearl Deep Storage Gateway sits in front of deep storage tape and nearline disk archives of all sizes, giving users the ability to cost-effectively scale when they need to. Both companies indicate that combining BlackPearl with Globus delivers simple, yet robust storage solution can easily be integrated with campus security infrastructure. This will allow it to streamline data flows within and among research institutions. In addition, the solution provides both on-premise and global access to content, enabling all the advantages of public cloud within the user’s own environment.

Spectra Logic-Globus solution will be demonstrated at Supercomputing 2015, through November 19th, 2015.
