Spectra Logic has introduced the Spectra Cube tape library, a seamless addition to its enterprise tape storage solutions tailored for today’s mass storage users and LumOS library management software. The Spectra Cube is engineered for cloud compatibility and ease of use, offering swift deployment, flexible scalability, and hassle-free servicing without downtime or specialized tools.

Integration with Spectra BlackPearl file and object storage systems ensures seamless compatibility with modern backup and archive applications, enabling highly cost-effective on-premises or hybrid cloud object-based tape tiers. Full support for Amazon S3 and Amazon S3 Glacier API access further enhances its versatility, making it an attractive option for managed or cloud service providers.

With over 30 custom integrations available and validated solutions for object storage environments like NetApp StorageGRID, the Spectra Cube offers extensive compatibility and flexibility for various workflows.

One of the standout features is its capacity-on-demand expansion model, which allows for the dynamic enablement of additional tape slots and drives via software without disrupting operations. Moreover, its environmental costs are notably lower compared to object-based disk or flash systems, and it offers a storage density of over 2.5 petabytes per square foot of floor space.

The Spectra Cube library boasts up to 30 petabytes of native capacity, expandable to a maximum compressed capacity of 75 petabytes. It supports multiple LTO technology generations, from LTO-6 to LTO-9, with provisions for future generations. Additionally, it supports up to 16 partitions for shared or multi-tenant environments.

In cloud deployments, the Spectra Cube library leverages Spectra’s reliable transporter technology and TeraPack magazines for efficient tape cartridge exchange, complemented by a user-friendly front-panel TeraPack Access Port.

Drive interfaces include Fibre Channel and SAS, with optional Ethernet-to-SAS bridges for cost-effective connectivity.

Introducing LumOS Library Management Software

This new system is managed by the newly introduced LumOS library management software. It features a user-friendly interface that facilitates both local and remote management and monitoring. It also presents an optional assisted self-maintenance model, allowing for swift component replacement without needing service personnel.

In addition to the Spectra Cube, Spectra introduced the TFinity Plus enterprise library and LumOS library management software. LumOS stands out with its modern architecture, offering enhanced functionality and performance up to 20 times faster than its predecessor, ensuring future-proofing for Spectra’s tape libraries.

Key features of LumOS include an intuitive interface with secure remote access, multi-threaded operations, a full REST API for automation, regular security updates, integrated partitioning, Capacity-on-Demand (CoD), AES-256 encryption, lifecycle management for both library and drive, automated drive cleaning, media lifecycle management, and proactive monitoring and diagnostics.

The TFinity Plus library, building upon the capabilities of its predecessor, introduces a new library control module and a high-resolution touchscreen tailored for LumOS software. It supports up to 168 drives, a 24-drive increase. It offers enhanced throughput using Spectra’s robotic transporters, TeraPack magazines, and LumOS software, achieving its class’s highest tape move and exchange rate. With storage capacities of up to 2.2 exabytes uncompressed and 6.4 exabytes compressed and a native throughput of 242 terabytes per hour, the TFinity Plus library sets new standards in tape storage.

Existing TFinity and TFinity ExaScale libraries can undergo field upgrades to support LumOS, becoming functionally identical to the new TFinity Plus systems.
