VMware Telco Cloud Platform

VMware has announced its 5G Telco Cloud Platform, a cloud-first network architecture, to accelerate 5G and edge innovation. VMware expanded its 5G Telco Cloud Portfolio with this solution, aiming to deliver service agility, operational consistency, and integrated lifecycle management automation from infrastructure up to network services. This new Telco Cloud solution will allow Communication Service Providers (CSPs) to reliably build, manage, and run containerized workloads across private, telco, Edge, and public clouds.

With VMware Telco Cloud Platform, VMware targets network and infrastructure optimization in a way that gives customers the agility and efficiency to pursue 5G objectives —at the same time, maintaining carrier-grade performance, quality, and reliability. This solution combines critical elements into a consistent, horizontal platform that eliminates silos, simplifies operations, and efficiently manages networks and infrastructure.

  • Cloud-native technology: containers and Kubernetes let you build, manage, and run cloud-native network functions (CNFs) across distributed sites.
  • A hybrid infrastructure: spans across multiple clouds and sites, from the core to the Edge and from private to public clouds.
  • Multi-layer, cloud-first automation: unites infrastructures and multi-cloud resources in a centralized orchestration system, which uses intent-based placement with late binding for optimization.

This solution also combines VMware Telco Cloud Infrastructure and VMware Telco Cloud Automation. The first is an evolution of the vCloud NFV solution, while the second is the recently launched multi-domain orchestration and automation capability. The 5G ready Telco Cloud Platform has been tailored for CSPs to easily embrace cloud-native technology and deliver applications and services across multi-cloud infrastructures.

VMware is also announcing Telco Cloud Operations, a real-time automated assurance solution designed to bridge the gap between virtual and physical networks. This solution provides holistic monitoring and performance management across multiple network layers, including SD-WAN, for rapid insights, lower costs, and improved customer experience. Telco Cloud Operations integrates machine-learning-based performance analytics and vivid reporting dashboards for proactive assurance, according to VMware. It complemented the Uhana solution, which provides intelligent automation for Radio Access Networks (RANs), CSPs can have comprehensive operations visibility across their entire network.
