Western Digital has announced the expansion of its WD Gold hard drive family with a new massive 12TB model. Designed to address demanding enterprise workloads, the 12TB WD Gold will provide a significant increase in storage density for a range of enterprise and cloud storage applications.

The WD Gold line ideal for use cases that involve storing important data, as they are specifically built with for heavy-workload, high-vibration server environments and have a reliability rating of 2.5 million hours MTBF, which is one of the highest in WD’s portfolio. Moreover, the new 12TB drives leverages the company’s 4th generation HelioSeal technology, which seals helium inside the HDD for increased capacity, reliability and power efficiency. The WD Gold line also uses Enhanced RAFF technology, which consists of sophisticated electronics that monitor the drive and correct linear and rotational vibrations in real time for improved performance.
