Western Digital has updated its prosumer portfolio with the high-performing 2-bay My Cloud EX2 Ultra NAS, an update to the My Cloud EX2. WD’s new storage solution is designed for creative professionals that need to automatically sync content across computers, easily share files and folders, and need multiple backup options.


Western Digital has updated its prosumer portfolio with the high-performing 2-bay My Cloud EX2 Ultra NAS, an update to the My Cloud EX2. WD’s new storage solution is designed for creative professionals that need to automatically sync content across computers, easily share files and folders, and need multiple backup options.

My Cloud EX2 Ultra features an upgraded 1.3 GHz dual-core processor for speedy transfer rates and smooth video streaming. It also comes equipped with 1GB of DDR3 memory, which is ideal for those who need to multitask. In addition, its data management (RAID 0, RAID 1; JBOD and spanning modes) and security features (NAS to NAS, USB, cloud or LAN/WAN backup) give users a choice on how to manage and protect their data.

Leveraging the WD Red family of HDDs, which are purpose-built for non-stop performance ​and 24×7 NAS environments, the My Cloud EX2 Ultra is available in sizes from diskless to 12TB capacities. The WD Red drives are also powered by NASware 3.0 technology to improve drive reliability and minimize data corruption due to power loss or disruption.

My Cloud EX2 Ultra features simplified file and folder sharing, allowing users to send customized, private links with the ability to give read/write access to specific files. The new WD NAS is compatible with MyCloud.com for web access and the My Cloud mobile app for smartphone access, allowing for remote dial management on any device with Internet access. WD Sync gives users the ability to automatically synchronize their media and files across their computers and their My Cloud device in order to ensure that their computer content is up to date and accessible from all devices.

My Cloud EX2 Ultra includes advanced data serving features as well, such as an integrated FTP and WebDAV server, backup server, P2P download server and Microsoft Active Directory support. Users can also download and run a large variety of third party apps, including, Plex, Milestone Arcus surveillance, aMule, Icecast, Joomla!, Anti-Virus Essentials, WordPress, and SqueezeCenter

My Cloud EX2 Ultra is now available at U.S. retailers and online at the wdstore.com.

Inclusive of a two-year limited warranty on the diskless model and a three-year limited warranty on the pre-configured devices, pricing is as follows:

  • $159.99 USD for the diskless model
  • $349.99 USD for 4TB
  • $449.99 USD for 8TB 
  • $599.99 USD for 12TB

The WD My Cloud mobile app is also available for download for free from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
