OCZ Vertex 2 and Agility 2 SSDs Announced
OCZ has announced the Vertex 2 and Agility 2 SSDs. Both solid state drives are geared toward the enthusiast market. The OCZ Vertex 2 posts 285MB/s read speeds and 275MB/s writes with 4KB random writes up to 50,000 IOPS. The Agility 2 offers the same read/write speeds with 4KB random writes up to 10,000 IOPS.
While OCZ is great about promoting the speed of their latest SSDs, they're not very good about saying much about what makes them tick outside of the typical marking parlance. If you want to know what makes this latest gneration better than the first, it's the "latest controller and firmware technology" of course.
The spec sheets do at least confirm TRIM and RAID support, MTBF of 1.5 million hours, three year warranty and 2W operating power consumption.
The OCZ Vertex 2 and Agility 2 SSDs come in 50GB, 100GB, 200GB, and 400GB capacities and begin shipping soon. Pricing has not yet been announced.
