WD Updates My Book External Desktop Hard Drives

Western Digital has announced the upgrade and redesign of their popular My Book and My Book for Mac lines of external desktop hard drives by increasing their capacity, 2TB, 3TB, 4TB for Windows and 2TB, 3TB for Mac, adding USB 3.0 compatibility, and including their new SmartWare Pro software suite. The new drives also sport a new more modern look.

WD continually ehances their software offering to deliver more value to consumers than just the typical storage volume. WD SmartWare Pro handles security measures against unauthorized access to the drive with its hardware encryption and password protection. To protect files against theft, fire, flood and other unforeseen disasters, My Book integrates with Dropbox to store files in the cloud.

For a full system backup and secure deletion of files, My Book includes Acronis True Image (ATI) WD Edition, which is an integrated software suite to ensure the security of all information for PC users. Additionally, it can be used to securely delete any confidential data that is no longer needed. ATI WD is also used for disaster recovery in case of a fatal system crash, by recovering the entire PC including its files, software, and preferences.

My Book for Mac will also take advantage of SuperSpeed USB 3.0 and is compatible with Apple's Time Machine. The Mac version is equipped with WD Security software for password protection and hardware encryption to protect files from unauthorized access. Additionally, My Book for Mac comes with WD Utilities, allowing users to register drives, run diagnostics, and more.
