Intel SSD 530 Announced

The Intel SSD 530 is being announced and features 20nm MLC NAND as well 2.5", mSATA and M.2 form factors to meet loads of ultra-mobility applications. The SSD 530 ships in capacities up to 480GB depending on the form factor. The 2.5" form factor SSD 530 delivers the greatest array of capacity options with 80, 120, 180, 240, 360 and 480GB offerings, and from that list, M.2 drops the 240 and 480GB options, while mSATA drops the 360 and 480GB. The drives also feature power modes to reduce power consumption and are quoted with very low active (typical) rates at just 140mW for M.2 and mSATA and 190mW for the 2.5" form factor.

Intel has thus really engineered the SSD 530 for implementation is anything from desktops to ultrabooks to tablets, and performance wasn't left out of the equation either. Intel rates all 3 form factors across the board with the same figures: sequential reads and writes up to 540MB/s and 490MB/s, and random read and write at 41,000 and 80,000 IOPS, also respectively. Pricing and availability details have yet to be announced, but we expect the drives to become available in the near future.
