Barracuda Launches CudaDrive File Service

by Adam Armstrong

Today Barracuda Networks Inc. launched its flexible and secure cloud file service for businesses, CudaDrive. CudaDrive enables users to share, store, and access corporate files in the Barracuda cloud from a multitude of devices while keeping the data secure at the endpoints. Organizations have the option to add an appliance enabling an easier transition from existing file shares. There is no requirement to keep the synced file locally so it will help to free up capacity. Pricing is based on capacity, not by user.

Like other file sync services, CudaDrive enables users to store, share, and access files from most devices; from just about anywhere they have Internet access. CudaDrive has an automatic user data protection feature that protects files, folders, and desktops. The virtual drive feature enables users an identical view of files in Barracuda cloud without the need to have the files stored locally.

Benefits include:

  • User Data Protection – protects files and folders on endpoints including individual computers and mobile devices.
  • Virtual Drive – intelligently caches data, minimizing local storage requirements and maintaining access to files without the need to sync.
  • Enhanced Security – encrypts all data in transit to, and at rest in the Barracuda Cloud, using 256-bit AES encryption – the same standard used by military and government agencies – and locally stored data becomes unavailable once users are logged out of the service.
  • Simplified Pricing – can be purchased by storage capacity without any per user fees.

CudaDrive Site Server benefits:

  • Network Drive Mounts – can be setup as a corporate file server much like a Z:\ drive where users can access and save files from remote locations.
  • Faster Access – files are cached locally and remain readily available, improving speed while on a company’s LAN.
  • Improved Bandwidth – preserved bandwidth by leveraging the appliance so that users do not take up network bandwidth from working off of the web.

Availability and pricing

CudaDrive is available today and starts at $39.99 per month for 100GBs, and all plans include unlimited users.
