Today GIGABYTE Technology announced the release of new GPU-centric servers. These new servers include the G482-Z53, G482-Z54, and G292-Z43 and are focused on HPC, AI, scientific simulation and modeling. The servers leverage the AMD EPYC architecture and can have up to eight GPUs in PCIe Gen 4 x16 lanes while still having room left over for storage and networking.

When the AMD EPYC 7002 processors came on the scene, they bought the promise of PCIe Gen4 with them, along with several other benefits. PCIe Gen lanes function at x16, meaning it is possible to have as many as 160 PCIe lanes available with each having a theoretical bandwidth of 32GB/s between CPUs and GPUs. Of course, there are several other factors at play that decide how much actual bandwidth is available. GIGABYTE is leveraging the AMD EPYC CPUs along with AMD’s Infinity Fabric link to reallocate bandwidth to PCIe lanes in its new GPU-Centric servers.

GPU-Centric Servers

First up is the dual socket GIGABYTE GPU-Centric Servers, the G482-Z53 and G482-Z54. These servers are built for 8 GPUs slotted side by side and linked via the AMD Infinity Fabric link. The servers are designed with the AMD Instinct MI50 in mind but works with other accelerators as well. The company claims that through leveraging AMD technology, all GPUs have their own dedicated PCIe Gen 4 x16 lanes, without the use of a PCIe switch to share a single lane with two GPUs. The entire line of GIGABYTE G482 supports up to 280W 2nd Gen AMD EPYC processors, 32 DIMMs, 3200MHz DDR4, and 128GB memory modules.

G482-Z53 and G482-Z54 Key specs:

The G292-Z43 is also a dual socket server but much denser in terms of accelerators. This 2U server has 16 PCIe slots and can house up to 16 low profile accelerators, by leveraging PCIe switches. On top of that, the G292-Z43 supports up to 16 DIMMs of DDR4 memory up to 3200MHz, and in 128GB memory modules.

G292-Z43 Key Specs:

CPU Dual EPYC 7002 (240W)
Memory 16 DIMMS (3200MHz)
PCIe Gen 4
PCIe slots 16 single slot GPUs + 2 LP
AMD Infinity Fabric Support No
LAN ports 2 x 10Gb/s
Storage 4 x 2.5″ U.2/SATA/SAS
4 x 2.5″ SATA/SAS
