Intel Introduces DC P3608 Data Center NVMe SSD

by Adam Armstrong

Today Intel released its latest data center SSD, the DC P3608. The P3608 leverages NVMe interface to give it performance up to 850,000 IOPS in 4K random read tests. When paired with Intel’s multi-core Xeon processors, the new SSD can obtain real-world transfer speeds up to 5GB/s. And the P3608 runs in capacities for 1.6TB up to 4TB, doubling the highest capacity of the previous P3700 drive by Intel.

And the P3608 runs in capacities for 1.6TB up to 4TB, doubling the highest capacity of the previous P3700 drive by Intel.

The P3608 comes in three capacities with the lowest capacity, 1.6TB, being the highest performer, and the highest capacity, 4TB, having the highest bandwidth. The middle capacity, 3.2TB, is a mixture of both good performance and bandwidth. The various performance options gives customers a better idea of which drive to select for a given use case. The three main use cases being: HPC, Big Data, and databases.

The P3608 drives comes ready to use right out of the box. With an industry standard interface, the P3608 is plug and play making upgrading as simple as pulling out the old drive and plugging in the P3608. The drives are designed to work with industry- standard NVMe software and drivers.
