Netgear Adds New Solutions to Boost the Home Network

by Lyle Smith

Netgear has announced new business networking products at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES), including the Orbi Pro WiFi 6 AX5400 Mesh System (SXK50) and the Ultra60 PoE++ Multi-Gigabit Ethernet Plus Switch (MS108EUP). Netgear’s SXK50 is specifically designed to provide SMBs with next-level coverage, speed, and security, while the MS108EUP is purpose-built for SMBs and home labs and as a companion to the WAX218, WAX610, and WAX630 wireless access points.

As working remotely continues to be the norm (in addition to the growing number of home-based businesses deploying networks beyond their intended use cases), these types of products are becoming more and more important. Reliability, performance, and security are the key features that Netgear’s new releases are trying to push, all of which are paramount in producing a more capable and consistent home network.

Netgear Orbi Pro SXK50

As such, the Orbi Pro SXK50 is equipped with the latest generation of WiFi 6 technology, sitting between the company’s SXK30 and flagship SXK80. It offers WiFi coverage and connection capacity with noticeably faster speeds than WiFi 5. Netgear also stresses that it has no dead zones and is available at an affordable price tag, the latter of which is perfect for home offices and smaller businesses with more limited budgets. Netgear indicates that the ideal applications for their new mesh system solutions include bed-and-breakfasts, professional services, and small education centers.

Compared to the previous generations, the Orbi Pro SXK50 can connect to 4x times the number of devices (i.e., 75 devices simultaneously) with up to 5,000 square feet of coverage. It also products triple the throughput and supports up to 5.4Gbps, making it ideal for video conference streaming as well as large file transfers and downloads.

Netgear Orbi Pro SXK50 Key Features

  • Performance and Coverage: Get three times higher throughput than previous Orbi Pro WiFi 6 generations with up to a total of 5.4Gbps of video conference streaming, large file transfers, and downloads.
  • Easy Setup: Connect to your existing broadband modem to set up and customize in minutes through the local user interface.
  • Safe & Secure: Supports WPA3 wireless security protocols and includes VLAN management and four SSIDs for separate and secure admin, employee, guest and IoT networks for different business purposes, as well as network segmentation.
  • Business Reliability: Dual-image in the flash, so it will never fail from firmware update disruptions or failures.
  • Supports More Devices: Mesh system provides coverage for up to 5,000 square feet and supports up to 75 devices simultaneously, helping you stay connected as you roam around the office with no dead zones.
  • NETGEAR Insight: Includes five years of NETGEAR Insight so you can monitor and manage your devices from anywhere and get insightful analytics on your network usage.
  • Gigabit Wired Internet: Includes three additional 1 Gigabit LAN ports on each unit for even higher performance for wired devices.

Orbi Pro SXK50 also supports Netgear Insight Business VPN, an add-on service that allows the connection of multiple Orbi Pro routers. This creates a site-to-site or site-to-multisite VPN (that is also encrypted, trusted, and persistent) so that the main office has the same SSID as branch and home offices.

Netgear Ultra60 PoE++ Multi-Gigabit Ethernet Plus Switch (MS108EUP)

The Netgear MS108EUP multi-gig switch allows you to connect all your network devices at multi-gig speeds with no need to update existing cabling infrastructure. Devices will pick the speed they need and auto-adapt to 1G/2.5Gb ports.

It can also handle up to 60W per port, allowing you to power things like WiFi APs, IP Cameras, IP speakers, and LED lighting from a single switch. Its 230W PoE budget allows for an abundance of power for virtually all a business’ PoE devices.

Netgear Ultra60 PoE++ Multi-Gigabit Ethernet Plus Switch Key Features:

  • Ideal Companion for NETGEAR Access Points: Connect and power your NETGEAR WiFi 6 Access Points (WAX218, WAX610, WAX630) with 2.5G connectivity for higher end-to-end performance and speed.
  • Future-Proof: Connect multiple devices to your network with a single wire for connectivity AND power. Eight ports of multi-gig 1G and 2.5G speeds connect devices instantly, whatever their speed, and automatically provide the speed they need.
  • Easy Management: Plug-and-play Plus switch with essential network management features. No need for an IT expert or a complicated user manual, just configure your network with a user-friendly web interface.
  • Advanced Per Port PoE Controls: Manage power of connected PoE devices by enabling and disabling PoE power per port, prioritizing PoE needs, limiting PoE power per port, and more. Simplifies management of Wireless APs, IP security cameras, LED lighting, secure access door locks, IoT devices, and more.
  • Fan-less & Wall-Mountable: With a wall-mount feature, Netgear MS108EUP can be placed either on a desktop or wall, and it is fan-less for silent operation in any environment.

Netgear Nighthawk RAXE300

Also announced is the Nighthawk RAXE300 Tri-band WiFi router. This solution combines 7.8Gbps WiFi speeds with the new 6GHz band, making it ideal for customers with WiFi 6E devices and bandwidth-heavy applications. This performance-driven router offers Gigabit+ WiFi speeds throughout homes with a coverage of up to 2,500 square feet.

Sporting a slick, modern design, the router’s elegant houses six pre-optimized antennas with a WiFi signal. It also comes equipped with a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port, which allows it to offer Gigabit+ Internet connectivity via an Internet modem or LAN connectivity to a high bandwidth device such as shared network storage. There are an additional 5 Gigabit Ethernet ports for wired connections to other home devices and IoT hubs.

Netgear Nighthawk RAXE300 Key Features:
