NETGEAR Introduces Orbi Outdoor Satellite

by Adam Armstrong

In recent months we took a look at NETGEAR's Orbi WiFi system (we specifically looked at the pro version). In our review we found that deploying Orbi, along with one of its satellites, immediately corrected WiFi dead spots and gave a big performance boost throughout the home versus just near the wireless router. While the Orbi is a great device that can speed up users' wireless connections, the one thing that it lacked was reaching the connection outdoors for those that entertain outside. Today, NETGEAR is fixing that with the introduction of the Orbi Outdoor Satellite.

The new Orbi Outdoor Satellite works with both the Orbi Tri-Band Whole Home WiFi System and/or the Orbi Pro Tri-Band WiFi System for SMB. The new satellite will extend all of the benefits of the Orbi system, a single network name for seamless roaming, a dedicated third channel for data exchange between the satellite and router, and a separate and secure Guest WiFi network, by as much as 2,500 square feet. As with all of the satellites, the new outdoor version installs quickly and easily and connects with the Orbi Router through NETGEAR patented FastLane3 Technology, which offers Tri-band WiFi, a Quad stream wireless dedicated backhaul of 1.7Gbps over the 5GHz band from the satellite to the router.

This new satellite is ideal for home uses that entertain outdoors, have a pool (the Orbi outdoor satellite is weather resistant and waterproof, just don't toss it in the pool), or like to use YouTube in their garage, shed, or barn to figure out just how to fix something. It is also ideal for businesses that offer outside areas for employees or customers that want to stay connected outdoors. Multiple Orbi outdoor satellites can work together to add even more coverage area. And the Orbi outdoor satellite has lighting that can add to the ambience by being programmed to automatically come on, or they can be left off.

Availability and Pricing

The Orbi Outdoor Satellite is available now with a MSRP of $330.
