The hybrid cloud has becoming a powerful tool to enterprises that need to innovate and deliver on new customer experiences while meeting customer expectations. Dell Technologies Cloud is a solution to help deliver on the hybrid cloud benefits while addressing multi-cloud environments. These solutions are built from the tight integration between VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and a variety of Dell EMC infrastructure – hyperconverged (VxRail) and converged infrastructure, as well as Dell Technologies validated storage, compute, and networking platforms. Part of an add-on to Dell Technologies Cloud is VMware Cloud on AWS that allows customers to expand their private clouds to the public cloud without having to refactor workloads for migration.

Benefits of Dell Technologies Cloud include:

  • Increase agility – Employ familiar VMware tools to provision, govern, automate and orchestrate applications across multiple cloud deployment options. This gives organizations workload placement flexibility through a single operational hub across public, private and edge clouds, backed by a broad, global network of cloud service providers.
  • Accelerate innovation – Adopt the simplest and quickest path to deploy hybrid cloud. WithVMware Cloud Foundation now available natively on Dell EMC VxRail, Dell Technologies Cloud Platforms offer the industry’s first jointly engineered, hybrid cloud infrastructure stack tightly integrated with VMware’s flexible, full stack HCI architecture. Customers also can opt to extend the cloud experience on-premises by deploying Dell EMC converged infrastructure and Dell Technologies validated storage, compute and networking options.
  • Improve cloud economics – Manage applications seamlessly across various clouds while saving time and cost by eliminating unnecessary application re-platforming. Organizations also can align how they pay for IT with how they do business through a range of options to buy, rent or consume IT as a service through Dell Financial Services. IDC research found that Dell Technologies Cloud can reduce total cost of ownership by up to 47% compared to native public cloud.
  • Reduce business risk – Enhance confidence in operations through the delivery of compliant IT services backed by built-in security and automated lifecycle management from the cloud vendor enterprises trust with their most critical workloads. Organizations benefit from the experience and trusted solutions of the industry’s top cloud infrastructure provider to improve service levels and better deliver on business requirements.

Dell’s Cloud Data Center-as-a-Service, VMware Cloud on Dell EMC, comes with the promise of combing cloud simplicity, agility and economics with the security, control and performance of on-prem infrastructure. This will give customers the flexibility they need while simplifying the experience. The initial rollout of VMware Cloud on Dell EMC will be what is stated above, VMware’s compute, storage, and networking (vSphere, vSAN and NSX) software on Dell EMC infrastructure with the whole thing being delivered as a service. The solution is built off of VMware’s Project Dimension announced at VMworld 2018. This should enable users to consume infrastructure in data center and edge environments on-demand like a public cloud service via a hybrid cloud control plane. According to VMware, the control plane will provide administrators with visibility and management of all on-prem systems including monitoring the health of their racks, tracking the steps VMware engineers take to resolve service issues, and automatic patching and upgrading of systems end-to-end.

Benefits of VMware Cloud on Dell EMC include:

  • Reduced operational complexity: VMware Cloud on Dell EMC will dramatically simplify the end-to-end management of data center and edge infrastructure. The service will span: one-click hardware ordering, initial deployment, automated patching and upgrades of software and hardware, monitoring and remediation as well as providing a global view of infrastructure across all on-premises locations.
  • Consistent operations and infrastructure across cloud, data center and edge: Offering consistent infrastructure—compute, storage and networking delivered as-a-service—and consistent operations—integrated and unified cloud management—will provide organizations with the highest level of flexibility for where workloads are deployed while extending proven models and established skills for operations, governance and security. Organizations will be able to address data center and edge location modernization, data latency and sovereignty sensitive workloads, and extend and modernize existing applications by supporting containers and Kubernetes as well as linking to cloud services offered by cloud providers, while maintaining their applications on VMware infrastructure. With this service, organizations will own and be responsible for their data—which always stays on-premises at their data center or edge locations.
  • Accelerate innovation: With VMware operating the entire infrastructure end-to-end, IT organizations will be able to focus on delivering higher level value to the business such as refreshing infrastructure in data center and edge locations in support of traditional and modern applications.  The service will further enable IT to offer developers increased freedom to build modern applications that drive the business without jeopardizing the operational integrity of those applications or introducing complexity in how those applications are supported.
  • Built-in enterprise security across the data center and edge locations: Security will be intrinsic to VMware Cloud on Dell EMC with the micro-segmentation capabilities of VMware NSX providing security for traditional or modern applications while encryption capabilities will secure data at-rest as well as data in-transit.

Availability

Dell Technologies Cloud Platforms are available globally now. VMware Cloud on Dell EMC is currently in beta and is expected to become available in the U.S. in the second half of VMware’s FY20.
