StorONE & Seagate Partner To Maximize SSD Performance

StorONE announced that it is partnering with Seagate to maximize the latter’s SSD performance. This will be a combination of StorONE’s TRU S1 Software Defined Storage Solution and Seagate’s SSDs. This combination in a virtual appliance configuration can hit 500K IOPS with 24 Seagate SSDs while still running all of the enterprise-class data protection features. This was achieved with a latency of less than 200us.

SUSE Manager 4 Released

SUSE released SUSE Manger 4 and SUSE Manager for Retail 4 (ideal and tailored for the retail industry) open source infrastructure management solutions. Key components of SUSE Manager 4 include:

  • Reduce costs and simplify management with enhanced content lifecycle management that makes it easier to move and manage packages throughout the DevOps cycle. Salt-based virtual machine management allows near real-time management of hundreds of servers.
  • Increase availability and visibility with expanded monitoring and alerting capabilities built on the next-generation Prometheus-based monitoring stack. This enables customers to easily identify and resolve issues.
  • Reduce complexity and regain control of complex heterogeneous IT environments with expanded operating system support and new SAP HANA deployment capabilities. They make it easier than ever to install and configure SAP HANA.

StorCentric Acquires Vexata

StorCentric continues on its buying spree now acquiring Vexata, after previously acquiring Drobo, Nexsan, and Retrospect. The acquisition of Vexata adds high performance NVMe flash storage to StorCentric’s growing line.

HP Refreshes Its Commercial Desktop Portfolio

HP unveiled its next-generation desktop like of G5 computers. The expanded portfolio includes:

  • The HP EliteDesk 800 G5 Small Form Factor, offers big performance in a small footprint, designed for modern workspaces. It is expected to be available July with a starting price at $869.
  • The HP ProDesk 600 G5 Desktop Mini, with single cable connectivity, creates workspaces clean of cords and can be deployed with the HP Mini-in-One or alongside HP EliteDisplay E243d Docking Monitor. It is expected to be available July with a starting price at $679.
  • The HP ProDesk 600 G5 Small Form Factor, features a space-saving design with flexible connectivity. It is available now with a starting price at $679.
  • The HP ProDesk 600 G5 Micro Tower, offers powerful options and built for expandability. It is available now with a starting price at $699.
  • The HP ProOne 600 G5 21.5-inch All-in-One, boasts a beautiful, sleek design with a micro-edge display and is built for collaboration while offering versatility and performance. It is expected to be available July with a starting price at $769.
  • The HP ProDesk 400 G5 Desktop Mini, provides configurable options for its space-saving design and future proofed with USB Type-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode. It is expected to be available July with a starting price at $579.
  • The HP ProDesk 400 G5 Small Form Factor, designed to create efficient workspaces with productivity, connectivity, security, and reliability built in. It is available now with a starting price at $519.

Cisco Intends To Acquire Acacia

Cisco has entered a definitive agreement to acquire one of its suppliers, Acacia Communications. Acacia designs and manufactures high-speed, optical interconnect technologies that allow web scale companies, service providers, and data center operators to meet the fast-growing consumer demands for data. The acquisition is expected to close in the second half of Cisco’s fiscal 2020 for about $2.6 billion.

Juniper Releases Juke 2.2

Juniper announced the release of Juke 2.2 with integration with Kubernetes and its container storage interface (CSI), as well as new snapshot and scheduler capabilities. Other new improvements include:

  • Volume snapshots and clone management to boost reliability and enable mobility
  • Deployment enhancements to make Juke simple to install, allowing developers to quickly become productive
  • Kubernetes cluster scale out with compute and storage nodes that can now span clouds and sites or stay local to one cluster availability zone

Hammerspace DaaS Now Available On AWS

Hammerspace announced that its Data-as-a-Service for Hybrid Cloud is now available on AWS Marketplace. This availability makes it easier on customers that need to manage and protect their data across hybrid cloud with global enterprise file data services. The company also claims that now it will be easier for DevOps, application owners, and data operations to consume their data-as-a-service via on-premises, cloud, and container environments.

Sony Launches New TOUGH SD Cards

Sony added new TOUGH SD Cards with the launch of its new TOUGH SF-M series of cards. The new cards come with quoted speeds of 277MB/s read and 150MB/s write and capacities up to 256GB. As the name implies, the cards are tough and can take a beating. The new series of SD cards is expected to be available this fall.
