Trilio Technology To Be Leveraged In Veritas For OpenStack

 Trilio announced that Veritas will be leveraging its data protection technology in Veritas technology for OpenStack Clouds. This includes incorporation into NetBackup, Veritas’s popular backup and recovery suite. Trilio will continue to sell and support its TrilioVault for OpenStack as well.

 Canonical Unveils Ubuntu Core V20

This week Canonical released Ubuntu Core 20, a minimal, containerized version of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS for IoT devices and embedded systems. This version bolsters device security with secure boot, full disk encryption, and secure device recovery. V20 also helps with the cost of design, development, and maintenance of secure devices.

Microchip Switchtec PFX PCIe 5.0 Family Unveiled

 Microchip announced the Switchtec PFX PCIe 5.0 Family in order to accelerate machine learning and Hyperscale computing infrastructure. The new family is said to be the first PCIe Gen5 switch and is said to double the rate of PCIe Gen4, which is really just now taking a foothold in the market. The Switchtec PFX PCIe 5.0 supports 28 lanes to 100 lanes and up to 48 non-transparent bridges (NTBs) and data rates up to 32 GT/s.

Lightbits Labs Announces New Patents And Revenue Growth

Lightbits Labs announced five new patents on top of a great 2020 for the company. The company saw a 500% increase in sales in part through the strong partnerships they have made, including one with Intel. The patents include the following:

  • 10,713,162: System and method for computer data peer to peer data transfers
  • 10,684,964: System and method for reducing read latency in storage devices
  • 10,642,733: System and method for memory interface load balancing
  • 10,628,301: System and method for optimizing write amplification of non-volatile memory storage media
  • 10,552,349: System and method for dynamic pipelining of direct memory access (DMA) transactions

Alluxio Achieves 3.5x Year-Over-Year Revenue Growth

Another company that had a good year was Alluxio. They are reported 3.5x sales growth YoY for FY2021 versus FY2020. Momentum includes:

  • Doubled the number of customers year-over-year and inked seven-figure deals with Fortune 500 companies.
  • Fortune 50 mobile device manufacturer deployed Alluxio at an enormous scale with 3,000 nodes in a single cluster.
  • Fortune 50 technology company’s single largest deployment of Alluxio manages over 1 zettabyte of data.
  • Significantly expanded deployments with leading tech companies such as Alibaba, Facebook, Microsoft, Tencent, and more.
  • Delivered a joint go-to-market solution with Intel of an in-memory acceleration layer with 2nd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors and Intel Optane persistent memory (PMem).
  • Alluxio community surpassed 1,100 contributors to the Github project and over 3,500 members on the community Slack channel.
  • More than 5,000 developers and data engineers attended Alluxio’s virtual conferences, Alluxio Day and the Data Orchestration Summit, to exchange ideas and best practices about key data engineering challenges and solutions around building cloud-native or hybrid cloud data and AI platforms using the latest technologies such as Alluxio, Apache Spark, Apache Airflow, Presto, Tensorflow and Kubernetes.

StorCentric Sees A Strong 2020

While 2020 was quite awful for many of us, technology companies did fantastically. StorCentric saw a greater than 35% CAGR achieved over the past several years with 2020 being strong as well. Momentum included:

  • Enterprise customers now total over 7,000 organizations
  • Enhanced and diversified solutions portfolio with the acquisition of Violin Systems, the company’s fifth acquisition in two years
  • Added experienced leaders to the company, including Rob Eggers as Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and former Brocade CFO, Dan Fairfax together with financial services visionary Manju Agarwal to its Board of Advisors (BOA)

Komprise Expands In Europe Through Tech Data

The technology distributor, Tech Data, announced that it has signed a pan-European agreement to offer solutions from Komprise. This means the Komprise Intelligent Data Management solutions can reach even more customers.

Amazon EBS Store Local Snapshots On AWS Outposts

AWS announced that users leveraging AWS Outposts can now make local snapshots of their Amazon Elastic Block Storage (EBS) volumes. Available on all Outposts provisioned with S3 on Outposts, users can store the snapshots locally versus using S3. This will help customers hit local backup requirements.
