NVIDIA GTC 2020 Bits

by Adam Armstrong

NVIDIA had its annual GTC summit, NVIDIA GTC 2020, this week and chose to go virtual as the Covid-19 pandemic is causing more and more shows to cancel or try to get their message out through different avenues. NVIDIA and Partners made a handful of announcements. These announcements include Iguazio partnering with NVIDIA, Lenovo DCG and NVIDIA collaborate on liquid cooled GPUs, DDN announces A3I support for NVIDIA DGX A100, NVIDIA contributes GPU support for Apache Spark 3.0 with the help of Cisco, and NetApp ONTAP AI integrates the DGX A100 and NVIDIA Mellanox networking.

Iguazio Partners With NVIDIA

NVIDIA GTC 2020 iquazio

Iguazio announced that its GPU-as-a-Service has been certified as part of the NVIDIA DGX-Ready Software program. This means that users get proven enterprise-grade solutions that increase data science productivity, accelerate AI workflows, and improve accessibility and utilization of AI infrastructure using NVIDIA DGX systems, including the new NVIDIA DGX A100.

Lenovo DCG & NVIDIA Collaborate On Liquid Cooled GPUs

Lenovo DCG states that it is collaborating with NVIDIA to help deliver key building blocks of the exascale era. The two companies are beginning with the combination of NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPUs and NVIDIA HGX A100 4-GPU with NVLink with Lenovo’s Neptune Liquid cooling technology. This results in liquid cooled GPUs inside some of the top performance platforms that in turn should help those platforms to get the most out of the new NVIDIA technology.

DDN A3I Supports NVIDIA DGX A100

DDN’s AI storage solutions, A3I, have added support for the new NVIDIA DGX A100 systems. The combination of technologies are aimed at companies that need flexible resources to address multiple workflows, projects or departments. The two companies intend to release new reference architecture based on A3I and DGX A100.

Cisco & NVIDIA Accelerate Apache Spark 3.0

One of the many announcements at GTC was NIVIDIA’s contribution of GPU support for Apache Spark 3.0 (3.0 enables the native access of GPUs). Cisco’s Data Intelligence Platform works directly with Apache Spark. The two companies are collaborating to deliver the GPU-accelerated data center to power artificial intelligence and accelerated analytics practice, enabling users to accelerate insights and outcomes, turbocharge their data center, and innovate for the future. Cisco UCS that support the latest NVIDIA GPUs allow customers to fully capitalize on new Apache Spark capabilities.

NetApp ONTAP AI Integrates NVIDIA DGX A100

NVIDIA GTC 2020 NetApp

NetApp states that its ONTAP AI is one of the first converged AI stacks to incorporate the DGX A100 and NVIDIA Mellanox networking. The two companies are working closely to combine all the benefits of the two technologies. This would include:

  • NetApp ONTAP AI. This market-leading joint solution—combining NVIDIA DGX systems and NetApp AFF storage—was introduced in 2018 and has been deployed at over 70 customer sites across the globe.
  • NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD. NetApp joined with NVIDIA to introduce DGX SuperPOD solutions in November 2019 at SC19.
