Silicon Motion has announced MonTitan, a high-performance PCIe Gen5 SSD solution platform purpose-built for demanding datacenter and enterprise applications. The Silicon Motion MonTitan platform features a new ASIC and FW architecture optimized for performance and quality of service (QoS).

Available in E1.S, E1.L E3.x, and U.2/3 form factors, the MonTitan also features a unique layered FW stack, which will allow customers to develop differentiated solutions with both flexibility and accelerated time to market.

 

Silicon Motion MonTitan

MonTitan is a programmable PCIe Gen5 platform powered by Silicon Motion’s SM8366, the company’s 3rd Generation NVMe controller family, and supports OCP Datacenter NVMe SSD and NVMe 2.0 specifications. It also features their proprietary PerformaShape and NANDCommand technology:

• PerformaShape: provides ASIC-based QoS sets using HW isolation to ensure maximum BW performance while maximizing user-defined individual performance elements (QOS, Latency, RR/RW, power).
• NANDCommand: maximizes the Enterprise performance of next-generation NAND geometries with exceptional LDPC error correction and endurance extension for QLC and beyond.

The SM8366 is a dual-ported, enterprise and data center PCIe Gen5 x4 NVMe controller with 16 channels that support up to 2400MT/s. It allows SSDs to post some pretty impressive quoted performance numbers, including 4K sequential speeds over 14GB/s and over 3 million IOPS in random performance. The SM8366 is also outfitted with a scalable single/dual channel 40bit DDR4-3200/DDR5-4800 DRAM interface.

Silicon Motion believes that the combination of the SM8366 with the MonTitan platform will provide their customers with flexible, high-integrity solutions for a new standard of data center SSD design.
