Synology has announced the DiskStation DS411slim, their latest NAS geared toward the home and small business markets. The compact 4-bay unit uses 2.5″ drives to give users RAID redundancy while minimizing power consumption and noise output. Synology Hybrid RAID and clean interface let users easily create volumes up to 3TB.

Compared to the prior model, the DS409slim, the DS411slim offers a faster processor (1.6GHz) and the RAM has been boosted to 256MB. Other hardware features include Gigabit LAN, eSATA and two USB 2.0 ports. The unit also consumes fewer than 17 watts in use, and 9.6 watts in hibernation.

All Synology units come with DiskStation Manager 3.0 NAS management software; which frankly offers more than almost any consumer could use, but hey, it’s there if you need it. Some of the most useful consumer components though include DLNA support for media streaming, access to content on the NAS via smartphones and other wireless devices, computer backup and support for in-home security cameras.

Pricing and Availability

The Synology DS411slim is scheduled to be available for purchase in mid-February at which time pricing will be announced.
