Today Violin Systems and X-IO Technologies announced that Violin Systems, strengthening the company’s high performance solutions, would acquire the X-IO Intelligent Storage Element (ISE) business. X-IO will become Axellio, Inc. that will focus on edge computing and HCI business. While financial terms were not disclosed the transaction is expected to be completed within 30 days.

For Violin, this means a larger variety of solutions spanning from terabytes to multiple petabytes with enterprise-class performance, features, and reliability. Combining its products with X-IO’s price to performance value could potentially lead to a larger variety of customers. Violin will be adding X-IO’s storage engineering team as well as its service process and organization. Meaning existing customers will continue to get the same level of service they’ve grown accustomed with.

X-IO will now become Axellio. As stated their focus is on the edge and HCI. The first product for the edge, FabricXpress, was announced last year, in this case for streaming big data analytics. Axellio’s technology now covers multiple use cases and address issues like throughput, latency, capacity, space, power, cooling and transportability in edge data capture, streaming analytics, cyber security, visualization, virtual and augmented reality, and other applications across finance, defense, aerospace, healthcare, transportation, retail, manufacturing, and entertainment industries. The company now offers four solutions:

  • Hyper-Converged Infrastructure – A powerful appliance designed with Microsoft Windows Server Software-Defined (WSSD) solutions, based on Microsoft Windows Server 2016 and 2019.
  • Micro Cloud – A purpose-built solution for implementing scalable cloud architectures and running cloud native applications, while providing the speed needed to offer real-time insights.
  • Micro Data Center – A 2U architecture that incorporates graphics processing units to run machine-generated data, data analysis, crypto-currency, and complex problem solving.
  • Portable Axellio – An edge-computing system in two suitcases that meet commercial airline standards, including one suitcase small enough to carry on the plane. The portable Axellio enables IT teams to travel simply, effectively and flexibly to set up a mobile data center anywhere at a moment’s notice.
