EcoFlow Delta 2 Max

The EcoFlow Delta 2 Max Portable Power Station is a large, yes compact power solution that offers impressive features and performance. While that sounds strange to say, it offers a huge 2048Wh battery, without getting too much larger than the Delta 2 unit. With its 2400W AC output (surge 4800W), this power station can run a wide range of appliances and devices, making it suitable for larger IT deployments, emergency situations, or situations that demand additional battery capacity.

EcoFlow Delta 2 Max

The Delta 2 Max fits solidly right in the middle between units such as the Delta 2 with a 1024Wh battery and the large Delta Pro with a 3600Wh capacity. While you could easily say yes, it fits in the middle because the battery capacity sits at the midway point, it really sits at the top of the “portable” class before requiring wheels. The Delta 2 weighs in at 27 lbs, while the Max is 50 lbs and the Delta Pro is right around 98 lbs. So for most people, the Delta 2 Max is going to be the largest portable power station still remaining carry friendly.

EcoFlow Delta 2 Max Expansion

The Delta 2 Max includes nice enhancements over the normal Delta 2, besides the battery that is twice the size. The inverter gets bumped from a rating of 1800W to 2400W. On the input side, the AC charging speed gets bumped from 1200W to 1800W and the solar DC charging jumps from 500W to 1000W. This 100% jump comes from an additional DC input port, allowing you to connect two different charging circuits at once. It can be charged using AC power, with an 80% charge achieved in just 1.1 hours. Alternatively, combining solar input and AC power can result in an 80% charge in just 43 minutes.

EcoFlow Delta 2 Max Inputs

The power station’s 2048Wh capacity provides ample runtime for essential devices. This keeps higher-draw devices operating longer, or giving smaller devices huge runtime to stay operational in the field longer. Furthermore, the Delta 2 Max is expandable, allowing you to connect up to two Smart Extra Batteries for a total capacity of up to 6144Wh, providing even more backup power.

The Delta 2 Max features a long-lasting and safe-operating LFP (LiFePO4) battery chemistry, providing a lifespan of 3000 complete cycles until it reaches 80% capacity. This longevity sets it apart from older power stations with similar capacity and output, ensuring reliable power for approximately 10 years, even with daily use. EcoFlow also incorporates multiple layers of protection, including a rubber anti-slip base and a highly-rated UL94-5VA fire-resistant casing, making it safe and durable.

At the time of this review, the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max has a street price of $1,699.

Build and Design

In terms of design, the Delta 2 Max follows the design of the Delta 2, just bigger in size. The Delta design minimizes protrusions besides the fixed, integrated carrying handles. The design splits DC and AC outputs to the front and rear of the unit, while also hiding power inputs under a protective shield. Compared to other designs on the market, it definitely feels the most sophisticated.

EcoFlow Delta 2 Max Fans

In terms of weight, even with the same 2048Wh battery capacity, it remains almost 30% lighter than comparable 2kWh LFP power stations, ensuring easy portability without compromising on power. Most of the 2kWh units in this range include wheels or luggage-style handles. This goes back to the earlier comments about EcoFlow designing this unit to be one of the largest carry-friendly designs on the market for this capacity.

EcoFlow Delta 2 Max AC

EcoFlow provides peace of mind with an extensive 5-year warranty, offering one of the most comprehensive warranties in the industry. Additionally, the Delta 2 Max is compatible with other EcoFlow products, such as portable solar panels, the Wave portable air conditioner, the GLACIER portable fridge, extra batteries, and the smart generator, allowing users to create a complete power solution tailored to their needs.

App Support

EcoFlow offers local Bluetooth connectivity as well as remote cloud access over Wi-Fi for the Delta 2 Max. This is the same app support offered across nearly the entire portfolio of EcoFlow devices. Compared to other competing offerings, the Ecoflow App is one of the most refined, with minimal issues.

EcoFlow Delta 2 Max App

The EcoFlow App gives full remote control capability, with some additional settings that you can’t configure locally. The most useful is the charge rate limiting, to lower and adjust the AC or DC inputs for certain environments. You can also adjust charge or discharge cutoffs, to help minimize wear over extended periods of time.

Power Testing

EcoFlow rates the Delta 2 Max as having a 2,048Wh battery. In our lab with a 350W load applied, we measured the discharge capacity through the AC inverter at 1,800Wh. To bring it back up to full charge, the unit needed 2,370Wh of power at its highest charge rate.

The 2kWh-class portable power stations offer a lot of options for larger field deployments. While the increased inverter size might help most situations, having a battery twice the size is a huge advantage for off-grid situations. For power backup, the Delta 2 Max can help out with large 120V loads.

EcoFlow rates this unit with a 30ms switchover time, which should keep most devices operational without power cycling during an outage event. Certain sensitive equipment will probably still require a traditional UPS though.

Conclusion

The EcoFlow Delta 2 Max Portable Power Station impresses with its powerful output, high-capacity battery, fast recharging capabilities, and robust design. Whether you need backup power for your home, a reliable power source for outdoor adventures, or a solution for emergency situations, the Delta 2 Max delivers exceptional performance and versatility.

We’ve also been using these power stations extensively in our remote IT testing and occasionally even in the lab when we want to be sure gear never goes down. The sheer flexibility of these units continues to impress and as noted, EcoFlow is at the top of the game when it comes to durable design and app integration.
