AMD has unveiled its latest processors, the AMD EPYC 8004 Series, marking the completion of the 4th Gen AMD EPYC CPU family. These workload-optimized processors integrate the “Zen 4c” core and are tailored for energy efficiency and diverse applications from intelligent edge to the data center for cloud services.

According to Dan McNamara, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Server Business at AMD, “The new EPYC 8004 Series processors extend AMD leadership in single socket platforms by offering excellent CPU energy efficiency in a package tuned to meet the needs of space and power-constrained infrastructure.”

AMD EPYC 8004 Processors, formerly codenamed “Siena”, are designed for single-socket platforms, with up to 64 “Zen 4c” cores and 6 channels of DDR5 memory in a small footprint, these processors are ideal for space and power-constrained deployments. The EPYC 8004 series delivers high performance in a power envelope as low as 70 watts.

High-Performance and Energy-Efficient

The AMD EPYC 8004 series processors deliver efficiency and performance for both traditional data centers and the intelligent edge. Here’s what customers and partners can expect:

  • Energy Efficiency for the Intelligent Edge: These processors utilize the efficient “Zen 4c” core and a new SP6 socket, which streamlines memory and I/O features. This allows the EPYC 8004 series processor to provide up to 2x better SPECpower® performance per system watt compared to top networking models of competitors.
  • Balanced Performance: In industries demanding the utmost performance per watt for space and infrastructure-constrained environments, the AMD EPYC 8004 series processors deliver both balanced performance and excellent energy efficiency at the edge. For instance, the EPYC 8534P outperforms competitors’ networking products by up to 2.4x in a video encoding workload. In an IoT Edge gateway workload, an eight-core EPYC 8024P-powered server can provide approximately 1.8x the total throughput performance per 8kW rack compared to a competitor’s eight-core processor.
  • Optimizing Savings for Intelligent Edge Deployments: In intelligent edge deployments, where smaller nodes of servers are the norm, AMD EPYC 8004 series processors offer substantial energy efficiency. When compared to the competition, these processors can potentially save customers thousands of dollars in energy costs over a five-year period due to their improved core density and increased throughput.

OEMs Take Advantage By Introducing Unique Systems and Solutions

Several OEMs and partners have already introduced systems and solutions designed to leverage the capabilities of the AMD EPYC 8004 series processors across various power and temperature requirements. These solutions cater to dense data centers, city telco buildings, and challenging environments like factory floors.
