Druva Adds Disaster Recovery to Their Backup and Archival Solution, Phoenix

Druva has announced new Disaster Recovery (DR) functionality for Phoenix to further increase the efficiency of their converged cloud-based data protection solution for enterprise infrastructure. Phoenix was first announced back in October of 2014, which was the industry’s first backup and archival solution for both physical and virtual server environments direct to cloud. The new DR functionality creates a single platform supporting multiple, often disparate data protection capabilities, helping to remove the need for software, expensive hardware, tapes and process complexity all the while saving enterprises total operating costs. Based on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Druva Phoenix leverages the public cloud’s flexibility, global presence and security.


Druva has announced new Disaster Recovery (DR) functionality for Phoenix to further increase the efficiency of their converged cloud-based data protection solution for enterprise infrastructure. Phoenix was first announced back in October of 2014, which was the industry’s first backup and archival solution for both physical and virtual server environments direct to cloud. The new DR functionality creates a single platform supporting multiple, often disparate data protection capabilities, helping to remove the need for software, expensive hardware, tapes and process complexity all the while saving enterprises total operating costs. Based on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Druva Phoenix leverages the public cloud’s flexibility, global presence and security.

The new DR feature allows organizations to continuously back up their VMware environments as well as the ability to automatically recover and spin-up their virtual machines in the AWS public cloud in the event of a disaster. As a result, business continuity is ensured. The new DR feature also is comprised of advanced configuration settings, offering customers the option of setting up detailed policies to automate network and security failover to a DR environment. Druva indicates that this will reduce downtime substantially also adding that administrators will be able to automatically spin-up multiple copies of virtual machines across geographies and accounts for test and dev automation.

Phoenix is designed to combine hot, warm and cold backup and archiving processes with Druva claiming significantly faster backups and restores (roughly 20 times) compared to competitive solutions. In addition, Druva’s cloud architecture creates a single converged platform that scales to support multiple workloads while leveraging AWS storage technologies.

Druva indicates the following additional features of their new DR functionality:

  • Unified Backup & Recovery for Physical and Virtual Environments – Removes the need for costly multi-vendor approaches and provides ever-incremental backups for greater storage flexibility and recovery.
  • Seamless Archival – Automates storage management and provides infinite retention ensuring data can be held and securely stored for decades.
  • Test & Dev- Boots a copy of a virtual image in the cloud, allowing companies to create a replica of the production environment. Tests and validation can be run against a copy of the production data.
  • Integrated Analytics – Converging multiple services provides administrators unified visibility to data and usage patterns.

Using a “pay as you play” pricing model, Druva Phoenix backup and archival is available today.
