StorageCraft Targets Mid-Market with Converged Data Platform

by Michael Rink

StorageCraft today announced converged scale-out storage and data protection platform OneXafe. OneXafe is a brand new trademark issued just 5 days ago on August 15th and replaces the s in safe with an x. Why? Storagecraft didn’t say, but its a naming scheme they seem to be fond of because they announced a new data protection solution called ShadowXafe too. This is beginning to seem like the month for converged platforms; just last week we covered Quantum’s converged tape appliance.

Designed for mid-sized organizations, OneXafe is a converged scale-out storage and data protection platform for both physical and virtual environments. At the core of OneXafe is StorageCraft’s distributed object-based file system that is tightly integrated with its ShadowXafe data protection services. The file system delivers universal file data access to users and applications. StorageCraft claims that their VirtualBoot feature can recover terabyte-sized VMs in under a second regardless of whether deployed on-premises or in the cloud.

As is to be expected from a converged storage and data protection service, administrators can manage both needs from a single service. The bundled software continuously monitors the health and status of the OneXafe platform and data environment, including real-time hardware, software, and network connectivity updates. It provides a global view of an organization’s storage infrastructure, including reporting and trending of storage capacity, data reduction ratios, remote replication, SLA-based data protection policies and recovery point objectives.

StorageCraft says that they are releasing three models under their new OneXafe trademark but so far have only told us about two of them. An all-flash OneXafe 5400 with 38TB of storage and a heftier OneXafe 4400 with 144TB of storage.

Data protection is provided by StorageCraft’s ShadowXafe software also announced today. It is tightly integrated with StorageCraft cloud-based Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS), which already protects over a million servers worldwide. ShadowXafeis storage hardware agnostic (software-only). Data management and protection workflow are managed and optimized through a single, unified lifecycle dashboard that includes policy-based administration, analytical reports, VMware integration, and SLA-driven policies.

StorageCraft has been on a bit of a roll recently. Last March we coveredthe announcement of their StorageCraft for Law Enforcement solutions.
