HP announced three new and refreshed mobile workstations based on Intel’s “Alder Lake” processor silicon. The top model, the ZBook Fury 16 G9, uses Intel’s new HX-class 55-watt chips, and all offer Nvidia or AMD graphics silicon.

HP ZBook Fury 16 G9

The flagship model, the ZBook Fury 16 G9 replaces – or rather, merges – the previous 15.6 and 17.3-inch ZBook Fury models. This laptop is one of the first to feature Intel’s recently announced 55-watt HX-class processors, which are more powerful than the 45-watt H-class chips normally found in notebooks like this. The HX-class chips are part of Intel’s 12th generation Core line otherwise known as Alder Lake. (See our Core i9-12900K review for an in-depth look at the architecture.) ECC memory is available with select processors.

Another major change since the previous ZBook Fury model (see our ZBook Fury 17 G8 review) is the switch to a taller, more productive 16:10 aspect ratio screen with up to a 3840×2400 resolution. An HP DreamColor professional display supporting 100% DCI-P3 color is optional. A 120Hz 3840×2400 screen (non-DreamColor) is also offered.

Other highlights for this laptop include up to 16TB of NVMe storage (four M.2 PCIe Gen4 drives), 128GB of DDR5-4800 memory (four SODIMM slots), Thunderbolt 4 and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, and top-shelf Nvidia RTX or AMD Radeon RX graphics cards. (Specific models of the latter haven’t been announced.) HP is also upping the ante with a customizable per-key RGB backlit keyboard and a 5MP IR webcam.

The ZBook Fury 16 G9’s expected availability is June; pricing hasn’t been announced. Its basic specifications are as follows:

HP is emphasizing enhanced cooling with this generation, of which the ZBook Studio 16 G9 will need a lot since it’s only 0.71 inches thin. It now has curved metal fan blades and uses vapor chamber heatsinks. It also features a customizable per-key RGB backlit keyboard, Wi-Fi 6E, and Thunderbolt 4, and an available HP DreamColor or OLED screen, which is now 16″ and 16:10 aspect ratio.
