The storage market is seeing new technology hit the retail shelves, but for most consumers it doesn’t mean faster drives or greater reliability. SSD manufacturers are starting to release drives with 25nm NAND flash, the newest type of flash memory, which is cheaper to make but offers fewer write cycles than the current-generation 34nm NAND.

Plextor announced their second generation series of SSDs at CES last month, and now they’ve sent word that the drives are shipping. Drobo introduced new storage products designed for business use including primary and secondary storage, offsite backup, and server virtualization deployments. The products add improved ease of use, software, and support options over the company’s existing products.

Diskeeper has released its Emergency Undelete software as a standalone product for $19.95. The product can restore accidentally deleted files of any type as well as their respective folders.

HighPoint Technologies has launched their Smart Hybrid HBA’s product line, designed to merge SSDs and hard drives into a single high-speed storage solution. The PCI-E 2.0, SATA 6Gb/s HBAs are powered by the Marvell 88SE9130 controller and deliver 80% of the SSD’s performance and 100% of the hard drive’s capacity.  

Asus has been making premium-ish notebooks for some time with the requisite sharp lines and classic Lamborghini script and charging bull logo. It appears they’re adding to the line of products with a series of external hard drives that share the same fun design, but lack the 3.3 second 0-60 speeds buyers might expect.
