QNAP has introduced myQNAPcloud One, a unified cloud storage subscription designed to address two distinct yet commonly paired needs: network-attached storage backups and object-based cloud data storage.
The service combines an updated version of myQNAPcloud Storage, built primarily for NAS backup workflows, with myQNAPcloud Object, an S3-compatible object storage platform. Both draw from a single pool of purchased storage capacity, allowing customers to allocate space based on actual usage rather than maintaining separate subscriptions for each workload.
QNAP says the release follows early access testing throughout 2025, during which users deployed the platform in real backup and object storage environments. Feedback from that phase pointed to consistent interest in a consolidated cloud storage model that could reduce operational complexity while keeping costs predictable. The official launch builds on those findings by formalizing the shared-capacity approach and expanding feature availability across both services.
myQNAPcloud One is a usage-flexible storage subscription: customers start by choosing a total storage amount (starting at 1TB), which can then be split between NAS backups and object storage as requirements change. Because data transfer and API request fees are included, organizations can estimate costs without accounting for variable traffic charges, which are common on many cloud storage platforms.
Data Protection, Security, and Global Availability
The service includes immutability options through object lock functionality. These controls are designed to prevent stored data from being altered or deleted for a defined period, providing an additional layer of protection against ransomware, accidental file removal, or unauthorized changes. Such features are also commonly required in regulated sectors, including healthcare, finance, and education, where retention policies and auditability are mandatory.
Integration with existing QNAP NAS backup tools is a central part of the platform’s design. myQNAPcloud One can be configured as a remote backup destination, with management handled through familiar interfaces used by QNAP NAS administrators. This setup makes it easier for IT teams to get started while still providing a reliable off-site location for restoring data when systems fail or data is lost.
Security and compliance considerations are addressed through infrastructure and policy controls aligned with regional privacy and data protection requirements. The service operates across 13 global data centers, reducing latency for users in different regions while supporting compliance with local data handling standards. This geographic distribution is intended to balance performance needs with regulatory obligations, particularly for organizations operating across multiple countries.
For teams using NAS systems, the refreshed myQNAPcloud Storage adds useful tools to support day-to-day management. Administrators can review user activity for up to 180 days, share files with precise expiration dates, and retain up to 100 versions of the same file. These features make it easier to track changes, control access, and recover data when working with large backup sets.
In addition, the service operates across 13 data centers worldwide, allowing organizations to choose a location closer to where their data is used, which helps maintain consistent performance and more reliable access regardless of region.
myQNAPcloud One Pricing
Subscription pricing is structured to accommodate both short- and long-term commitments. Monthly plans start at 8.39 USD for 1TB of storage, while annual subscriptions offer discounted rates, reducing the effective monthly cost to around 6.99 USD per TB, depending on the plan selected. Additional capacity tiers are available beyond the entry-level offering, enabling organizations to scale as storage needs grow.
